A handyman who actually repairs small engines
Most handymen won't touch a motor, and most mower shops won't patch your drywall. I do both, and small engine repair is not a sideline here, it is one of my two trades. So when your gear quits you get a real diagnosis from someone local, not a shrug and a shop three weeks deep in backlog.
I work on gas-powered equipment of just about every kind. If it has a pull cord or a small motor and it won't do its job, call before you go buy a new one, most of the time the fix costs a fraction of replacing the machine.
Equipment I service
Gas-powered gear of just about every kind, repaired and tuned locally.
What I fix, and how
Won't start or hard to start
Fuel-system cleaning, a fresh spark plug and carburetor work, the usual culprits behind a machine that just cranks and won't catch.
Running rough or stalling
Almost always stale fuel gumming up the carburetor over the off-season. Cleaned out and tuned so it runs steady again.
Bogs down or has no power
Air and fuel filters, choke and governor linkages, and a compression check to find why it struggles under load.
Dull or damaged mower blades
Sharpened and balanced so your lawn gets a clean cut instead of a torn, browning finish.
Snowblower not throwing snow
Augers, shear pins, belts, skid shoes and chute controls, sorted out before the first real storm.
Routine tune-ups
Oil, spark plug, air and fuel filters, plus off-season fuel stabilizing so it starts on the first pull next time you need it.
How the job gets done
No mystery, no runaround. Here is exactly what happens from your first message to a finished job.
You reach out
Call or text, or send the quick form. Tell me what is going on. A photo of the problem, or of the machine that quit, helps me size it up before I even pull into the driveway.
A free quote, usually same day
I get back to you fast with a clear, no-obligation price. For bigger jobs I come take a look first so the number is honest, not a guess over the phone.
Booked around your schedule
We pick a time that suits you, and I show up when I said I would, with the tools and the common parts to finish in one trip wherever I can.
Done right, and cleaned up
I do the work properly the first time and tidy up before I leave. With small engine repair that means it starts and runs the way it should before I hand it back to you.
Small engine repair: common questions
Do I have to bring the equipment to you?
In most cases I can look at it right at your place in the east end. For a bigger job I'll tell you up front whether it's better handled on site or picked up.
My mower or snowblower won't start, is it worth fixing?
Usually yes. Most no-start problems come down to stale fuel, a fouled spark plug or a gummed carburetor, all far cheaper than a new machine. I give you an honest quote first, and I'll tell you plainly if a repair isn't worth it.
When should I get my snowblower serviced?
Fall, before the first storm, so it fires up on the first pull when you actually need it. Book a mower tune-up in spring the same way, ahead of the season.
What equipment do you work on?
Lawnmowers, snowblowers, generators, chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, pressure washers and more, gas-powered equipment of just about every kind.
Do you cover Navan and Cumberland too?
Yes. Small engine repair across Orléans and the wider east end, including Navan and Cumberland. I come to you, no driving across the city.
Based in Orléans and serving the east end of Ottawa, including Navan, Cumberland, Blackburn Hamlet, Avalon and Fallingbrook. Close by and not sure? Just ask.
